Moving in the summer can be a pain, and here in Ohio and Kentucky, we know it gets hot. To make things easier for you, we have come up with a list of ways to make summer moves a bit more tolerable.
When moving in the summer, things can be crazy. From schedules to weather, it is hard to always know what is happening. This is why it is important to plan ahead. Once you have a date you know you want to move, you should go ahead and book your moving company. Booking at least six to eight weeks ahead of time is super helpful, and that way, you can make sure you can get the best possible moving company to help you. Once moving day approaches, you should make sure to have plenty of time to pack up everything so that you are not in a rush and can be much more organized.
Like we said, summer weather can be unpredictable. It could be 60 degrees one day, then 95 the next. By booking your moving company to arrive earlier in the morning, you can make life much easier for everyone involved and beat the heat. If you can avoid moving between the hours of 11am and 3pm, you will be much happier since those hours are when the sun’s UV rays are the strongest. Your movers will thank you for scheduling them when it is cooler out.
When it comes to moving in the summer, you should also be sure to wear lightweight clothing and stay hydrated, so it is much more tolerable. Heat stroke is a real concern when it comes to moving in the summer and lifting heavy boxes and furniture in the hot summer is not an easy task. Also, don’t forget sunscreen! Make sure you are reapplying, too, so you stay protected all day.
In regards to pricing, if you move on a day that isn’t so busy for your moving company, you will get a much better deal. Weekends and days toward the end of the month are much busier, so if you can choose a day during the week, you will be much better off.
Back to the idea of planning ahead, it is a good idea to turn on your utilities ahead of time at your new residence. Having air conditioning at your new home will make a world of difference when it comes to moving. You do not want yourself or your movers to be sweating to death by the end of the day.
You should also take into consideration the things you are moving that may not do so well in a hot moving truck. Some things may melt, so make sure to pack those separately and maybe drive them over to your new home in your car.
